How To Clean Your House Fast

Occasionally you may get surprise visitors or last-minute guests coming to your house to stay for dinners. What is even worse is that your house is still a mess. As the clock ticked away, you start to panic and don’t know what to do….

A fast and efficient house cleaning method can be a lifesaver for you at times like this. In this article, we are going to introduce to you some tips to clean your house as quickly as possible.

Before we go into details, we need to understand that the principle of quick house cleaning is to “have a system, move quickly and never go back to a room," says Andre Lewis, manager of Alpha Living, a green cleaning service in New York City.

In order to clean your house systemically and efficiently, we should always start from high to low, and from back to front. For example, always cleaning your house from upstairs and work your way down so that dirt and dust from higher surfaces falls on lower surfaces. Starting from the farthest corner of a room and work your way out so that the leading edge moves forward and you will be able to collect everything.

 

Room 1: Bedroom (10minutes)

(1) Clean sweep

Get few boxes and put all the unnecessary items that are scattered around your dresser or nightstand in there and stash them in closets. Clean out the clutter and empty the wastebasket.    

(2) Make the bed

Remove the dirty linens and put clean ones on the bed. Lift up the corners of the mattress with one hand and tuck the bed sheets under the mattress with the other hand.

(3) Remove dust

Use a dry microfiber cloth or duster to dust the surface of your furniture, and clean them from top to bottom and dump the dust right onto the floor. Starting from the farthest corner of the room and work your way out.  

(4) Vacuum

Start from a back corner and vacuum your way out the door. Save time by only running the vacuum over each strip of carpet once.

 

Room 2: Bathroom (10 minutes)

(1) Prep work

 Spray the sink, vanity, shower, and tub with all-purpose spray and let it sit.

(2) Clean toilet

Add two spoon full of baking soda into the toilet bowl, and use a toilet brush to scrub the inside of the toilet thoroughly. Then flush the toilet a few times. After that, spray a microfiber cloth with all-purpose spray and wipe the outside of the toilet and tank from top to bottom.

(3) Clean the mirror

Spray on glass cleaner or all-purpose spray, and wipe the mirror with a microfiber cloth from top to bottom in a circular motion.

(4) Clean the sink

Dab a little baking soda on an old toothbrush, use it to quickly scrub the hard-to-reach spots around the fixtures. Then, use a microfiber cloth to wipe the counter, vanity, fixtures, and handles. Starting from one corner, move horizontally, and work from back to front.

(5) Shower and tub

Remove hairs and dirt from the shower strainer. In order to save time, use a dampened microfiber cloth to quickly wipe down the shower and tub instead of a full scrub. Then shut the curtain.

(6) Mop the floor

Quickly mop the floor with a dampened mop, beginning in a farthest corner and working your way out of the bathroom.

 

Room 3: Kitchen (12minutes)

(1) Do the dishes

Load the dishes to dishwasher and start the machine.

(2) Counter

Organize the countertop clutter by throwing away items you don't need. Cleaning dirty ones and putting other items away. Spritz the countertop with all-purpose spray and wipe it with a microfiber cloth. You want to make the counter top as empty as possible to create a clean look.

(3) Appliances

Use a dampened microfiber cloth to wipe down the surface of fridges, dishwasher, stove, oven, microwaves, toaster, and any other appliances in your kitchen.

(4) Clean the floor

Starting from the farthest corner and sweep your way out of the kitchen. Then mop the floor using a dampened mop following the same route. Finally, put on a kitchen rug.

 

Room 4: Living Room (15 minutes)

(1) Clear the clutter

Quickly reposition scattered items. Stash remotes, DVDs, and other accessories in drawers. Stack magazines on or under the coffee table. Neatly organize pillows and throws on the couches and chairs.

(2) Remove Dust

Use a dry microfiber cloth or duster to dust the surface of each furniture, and clean them from top to bottom so that the dust falls onto the floor. Start from the farthest corner of the room and work your way out.  

(3) Clean glass surface

To clean glass surface, such as glass tabletop, photo frames, and windows, spray a microfiber cloth with glass cleaner and wipe in a circular motion.

(4) Vacuum the carpet

Start from a back corner and vacuum your way out the door. Save time by only running the vacuum over each strip of carpet once.
